We went out to lunch and to Alysia's doctor today. Alysia is fine. I spoke with one of the nurses that was there the night I had Alysia, and she said that Alysia had done the same thing her first night. And she said that all Alysia wanted was to be rocked, and rub her back. so I thought I tried that last night... but oh well, maybe I'm just so tired that I don't remember. My husband says hello to everyone. Alysia has been sleeping all afternoon and I'm saying to myself, why couldn't she have slept this way last night? lol. . . This whole parenthood thing seems to be a lot easier with my other half here (Shawn). This afternoon Shawn said we need to have another baby. My reply to this was, "As soon as your able to carry the baby for 9 months, and also have it come out of a tiny hole, then you can have another baby. . ." then I thought about it and I saw the sad look on his face and I finished off by say "Or at least when Alysia is a little older", I don't want another baby yet. Not anytime soon at least. I mean, If we had another baby, i'd miss out on some things with Alysia because I'd be too busy with the new baby. Shawn wants to take a nap and Its been 3 months since he's slept next to me, and Alysia is asleep, so I'm thinking that I should take this time to sleep, or cuddle, either way, I'm out of here for now. Oh wait, before I go, I have another question. I know since i'm nursing that I need to be careful what I eat, so does anyone have any thoughts on what foods to definitely stay away from and what foods to have more of?

This seems really fast! They let you go from the hospital so soon, and now your eating out? Are you sure you're ok?

Anything that causes gas is good to stay away from- or eat in small quantities until you know if she reacts or not.  Things like broccoli, mexican food, stuff like that.

Hope you get some sleep!

Alysia woke up, so sleeping was a no show...

Kayles- -The hospital I was at, allow you to take your child home the next day unless there were complications, but the deal with all of that is, you have to be able to take the baby back the next couple of days so they can check on her to make sure everythings going smoothly. Which is also the same with me. They check on me the first day and from then it's just Alysia's show. I didn't eat when we went out, but we were there, and it's been so long since Shawn got to eat there, so we stopped. Nothing is appetizing to me, so I didn't eat and I also didn't know what I should or shouldn't eat, but thank you for your concern, I'm ok.

KarmaGirl- -Thanks! That was so helpful. I was hoping to get some sleep but Miss Alysia woke up the minute my head hit the pillow. So now I'm holding her while I'm typing with one hand. . . it's an interesting mix.

Thanks!

That's good, I'm glad you're okay. Did you go to a birthing center? I went to this "mother's group" for a while and one mom told a story that's kind of gross, but it made me think. She said that after she had her baby, she was wondering if the baby could taste what she ate. So, she ate a lot of onions one night and pumped a little bit of her milk the next morning. She said that it smelled like onions so much she didn't want to give it to her baby!

Don't worry- it will become natural.  You'll be amazed at how many things you'll start doing with one hand or with balancing an older baby on your hip (which is what they were made for).  It just takes time to adjust,

I GOT TO SLEEP!!!!! I fell asleep on the couch watching some tv, and Shawn took care of the baby! It was so sweet, he came out of our room and looked at me, I was half awake and he laughed at me and kissed me. Boy I missed those kisses.

I hope that I'll get used to doing things with one hand. I think I am going to go and figure something out for supper. . . Shawn wants hamburgers. . . I was so hungry for one yesterday, and now its just blah, and besides, I'd rather have nothing, but I guess I have to eat. Oy. . . *sighs* I want to cry. Everytime I look out the door and see Shawn and Alysia. Shawn has Alysia craddled in his arms and just looking down at her and smiling. It's so precious. I've missed him so much that I hadn't realized to the full extent of how much until he was home. I guess it's really true, you don't always know what you've got until its gone.

Well I'm out of here.

Hello.

First, the food. My wife breastfed our three girls. We learned not to east anything spicy. Also be careful not to deviate from your diet too much. My wife ate something that she normally would'nt. I think Emily had gas.

One handed: We used something called a "snugglie" It is basically a large pouch that straps to your front. At a very early age the baby faces you. chest to chest. When the girls could hold their head up they faced forward. It frees up your hands.

I also hear that you should not eat/drink much caffeine (chocolate/soda/coffee/etc), as it may also end up in your milk. Especially with a small baby (four pounds!? That's TINY!) you don't want to be accidentally feeding them stimulants. Amounts in moderation are OK, but if you are a 12-Coke-a-day drinker, you should cut waaaay back. (Our baby weighed in at just over 10 pounds, we still gave up soda for a while just to be safe.)

When the baby is bigger, you could also get a Baby Bjorn or some other baby sling. The Bjorn is pretty spiffy and adjustable but is kinda expensive; apparently baby slings in general are making a big comeback, so there should be a fair amount of variety available.

As everyone else has already pointed out, spicy things and green vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts) are things to avoid.  Caffiene is another one, and alcohol too.

Davey was a colicky baby, until I quit nursing at 7 weeks and we started him on formula (I had horrible mastitis that wouldn't reslove even though I tried to nurse through it, so my doctor advised me to stop).  Once he was bottle fed, the colic went away.  I'll never forget Lonesome trying to deal with Davey crying when I was ill in bed with mastitis...he walked him, he rocked him...I heard him saying "Please be a good boy for Dad...I'll take you for a ride in the car if you'll just stop crying!"...I think that was the father and son bonding time!

Anyway, good luck, and if you need any help, let me know.

P.S.  ~ you do get used to doing things one handed, you know!
